I drove my husband's car into Hot
Springs today to use the pay phone.
While waiting for a hiker to finish his conversation, I exited my car only
to realize that I had locked the keys inside! I walked across the street
to Bluff Mountain Outfitter to see if they had any device to open my car.
They did not. Scott Rogers, the bionic hiker, was there so I thought, "If
anyone would have a tool, it would be Scott". He did not.
We weighed ourselves on the huge scale at the outfitter. Scott has lost
25 lbs. I have lost one. Go figure! I decided that perhaps I should
eliminate the Krispy Kremes from my hiker diet. I also teased Scott
because he was weighing himself without his bionic leg...an additional
14 lbs. I walked to the Fire Department to try to get help to no avail.
The police department was closed. It was Sunday and there is only one
police officer in Hot Springs. So...I phoned AAA and they informed me
that they would assist me within two hours. They arrived within one and
a half hours only to learn that my door was not actually locked. My
husband was ready to go home and will never allow me to drive after being
on the trail for a month or more. We said goodbye and I then enjoyed a
one hour massage by Oshanna at the Hot Springs Spa before hiking a final
five miles in cold, rainy weather. I did hike past my first pond and
imagined what it would be like to swim there a month from now. |
