As of Wednesday, I have hiked 323.2 miles. This week has been challenging as the weather has been cold and wet.  On Tuesday, I made my first directional mistake passing Mr. Basset's gravestone twice.  My
daughter, Brittany advised me before I left, "Mom, if you don't know
which way to go, go against your instincts."

She was right and I thought of her advice when I messed up.  I still
managed a 15 mile day and Bear and I were thrilled to pitch our tents.
It had been at least 10 days since we've slept in our tents and I'm not too keen on shelter dwelling.  Waking on Wednesday with birds singing was quite peaceful and what I love about being in the woods.  The morning hike was a walk in solitude.  I hiked alone most of the way and enjoyed getting lost in my own thoughts.  Bear and I split up around 3 o'clock at Sam's Gap.  I hitched into Erwin with a trucker to rest up for a 25 mile day on Thursday and to pick up my Bounce box full of food for my hike to Roan Mountain.  Bear will meet up with me again on Friday where we plan to hike together again.
