Today, I was picked up by Miss Janet at 8:00 to slackpack a 25 miler. Slackpacking is offered occasionally by Hostel owners or visiting family/friends.  I jumped at the opportunity to hike 25 miles without my heavy backpack.  Upon entering the van, I introduced myself as Ladybug and others introduced themselves to me.  It is common for hikers to share a story about their given trail name.  For example, a young hiker named Publix seems to carry the entire store out of town with him after a visit into a town.

So when Mr. Clean was introduced, I recognized his bald head and his fit physique knowing exactly how he got his name.  So instead, I asked him if he was a swimmer.  Where I come from, swimmers and baldness go hand in hand, particularly in late February.  Mr. Clean responded, "Are you stupid or something?"  I was blown away by his comment but took the high road and kept my mouth shut.  Another hiker spoke up in my behalf as my mind began racing.  Wilson, the hiker sitting beside me grabbed my hand as if to say, do not worry, I'm here!  That was sweet but my mind was still spinning.

We all learned Mr. Clean was a boxer.  BINGO!  When we exited the van, I thanked Miss Janet for her kind hospitality and began my 25 mile hike into Erwin, TN.  I hiked past Mr. Clean and never looked back.  I figured the best payback for his rudeness was on the playing field.  I hope he was humbled!  I did enjoy my hike atop Big Bald where I picked up a blue bandana which I was sure belonged to Bear.  When I finally caught up to Bear, I gave him a cinnamon roll, beef jerky, a Reese's bar, and some nut mix.  He was very appreciative and we enjoyed a nice lunch together with another hiker named, Icebreak.

Before ending my hike, I stopped into a shelter to make a journal entry to Bear.  I ended my hike today walking over the Nolichucky River which was very beautiful.  My water supply was zero and the flowing river reminded me about my thirst.  I was also hungry and I imagined the trout fishing in the river!  I was thrilled to hike into a hostel and purchased a strawberry-kiwi drink from the machine.  I took a very long hot tub with a tray filled with cookies and Mellow-Yellow enjoying conversation with Red and Powderfinger.  My feet ache but Friday is a zero day.
