Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I love you! Happy Mother's Day, Ellen. I love you!
What does one do on a zero day? I typically launder my clothes. Today, I also washed my sleeping bag and shoes. I used the internet to check my website entries and photos posted. I phoned home and spoke to my family. Bear and I hitched a ride to the post office to pick up our food drop. We had lunch at Erwin Burrito where we dined outside on the sidewalk. It was strange to be sitting alongside a busy road watching cars and motorcycles speed by as we savored our huge burritos. In the woods, lunchtime is spent studying spectacular mountain views in a peaceful setting.
We walked a mile to purchase some additional supplies which included band aids for developing blisters on my heels and Mother's Day cards to mail home. Our hitch back to the hotel was provided by a nuclear plant SWAT guard who had just finished his shift. He informed us that submarine batteries were built at the plant and security was tight 24/7. He told Bear and me to wave upwards to him when we hike back into the mountains on Saturday. I promised we would but asked him to " hold fire." We soaked in the hot tub, ate dinner at the gas station next to the hotel, and packed our packs for another week in the mountains. I anticipate a great week of hiking and wonder what adventures await me in the woods. Bring on the rainbows! |
