At this writing, Wednesday night, I am watching mice climb above me in
the Vandeventer Shelter.  They have been a nuisance throughout my hike
but this is the first time I've seen them.  I'm not too sure how well I'll sleep tonight.  My hike today was a good one...17.5 miles from Dennis Cove Road to the shelter.  Bear and I hiked most of the way together today and enjoyed viewing Laurel Falls, Watuga River, and Watuga Dam which was completed in 1948.

The greatest part of our past two days has been the hospitality provided
by John and Sean at the Laurel Creek Lodge.  What an amazing place!  We were treated to home cooked meals, shuttles into town, slackpacking
opportunities, and very nice cabin accommodations.  What a restful
reprieve!  Today, as Bear and I were hiking, Bear said, "If I was smart,
I would have asked John to bring us some burgers on the trail."  Knowing
that we were going to meet John to get our packs, I phoned in Bear's
request.  When we met John roadside he said, "It's a good thing I check
my messages."  John cooked us both burgers, stopped my McDonald's and
purchased some french fries, had a Gatorade for Bear and Diet Dew for
me.  He told us to get in the van and enjoy our food sitting down.  We
were in heaven!  Thank you for the trail magic, John!
