A 2,650 mile charity hike...in loving memory.

August 17, 2008

I awoke this morning refreshed. As I began today's hike, 30-30 pointed out a note that he wanted me to read.

The note read something like this. "There is an agressive bear in this area who has been known to enter tents." Wow, I wondered if the bear that I had seen was THAT bear. "Did you see this note last night," I asked 30-30. "Yes, but I didn't want to tell you." He knew me well enough to know that I would never have camped there. His reasoning was spot on. I hiked along today feeling good.

The weather was a mix of rain showers, sun, clouds, and I even spotted a snow patch far in the distance on a mountainside. I also heard what sounded just like the music of an ice cream truck. The music took me back to my youth, summertime, when I eagerly waited on the curb with my 4 brothers and sisters for the musical truck to sell its array of ice cream delights. The cowbells teased me as I hiked along the mountainside. I have only been hiking for 3 days and I'm already dreaming about tasty treats. It doesn't take long. My 25 mile day was a satisfying walk.
