I am writing today about my local outfitter in Cincinnati, OH, The Benchmark Outfitter. I have shopped at The Benchmark since my hiking began as a novice. Even though some might consider me an expert hiker, The Benchmark Outfitter continues to support me with new knowledge and updates on the latest advances in hiking. Afterall, the employees at The Benchmark (and your local outfitter) are the ones who attend all of the gear conventions. They have knowledge that I do not. By taking the time to go into my outfitter of choice, I am able to talk with a highly trained employee one-on-one about any of my gear needs. The knowledgeable store employee will take their time fitting your shoe, boot, trail runner, backpack or whatever one's needs might be. These fittings cannot be done over the internet. And the attention given to proper fitting can make or break a hiker's hike. I would advise any hiker to establish a relationship with one's local outfitter. One might be able to find a gear item online for a discount, but I would recommend, though, that a hiker always check-in with one's local outfitter first. They too have sale racks!
