A 2,650 mile charity hike...in loving memory.

May 13-14, 2007

My two day reprieve at Hiker Heaven was awesome!  Britty, my youngest daughter, came to visit me.  She brought 12 In-N-Out burgers (animal style) and 12 fries (animal style) for all of the hungry hikers.  Britty took me grocery shopping.  I grilled filet mignon while Britty prepared a delicious mixed green salad.  Britty bonded with the Saufley's draft horses.  We both bonded with all seven of their rescue dogs.  At night, Britty and I played a card game called "Presidents and Assholes" with Stetson and Squirrel Hunter.  The "Prez" gets to make one rule while in office so our games became pretty rowdy and ridiculous.

Britty and I shared a room in the mobile home.  I woke up screaming in the middle of the night due to a cramp in my left calf muscle.  It was sweet waking up on Mother's Day cuddling one of my children.  I really miss them, my husband, and all of the accompanying affections.  Britty kindly washed the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen before saying goodbye. Getting to share my PCT adventure with Britty at Hiker Heaven meant much.  Thank you, Britty, for coming to visit me.

On Sunday, after Britty left, Stetson and I had breakfast at The Sweetwater Cafe.  I then took a very long and peaceful nap.  I opened my re-supply box sent from home and I was surprised by the personalized M&M's my oldest daughter had sent.  The I love you and Tina imprinted messages on pink and yellow candies moved me to tears.  Now sporting puffy red eyes, I moved back into the RV with Ed so Bob (a.k.a. Wounded Face) could have the bedroom.

As I was moving my gear, I bent over to pick up a leaf off of! the rug.  It was actually a lizard so I enlisted Squirrel Hunter for his help with the catch.  It took some time but Squirrel Hunter was successful, sort of.  The lizard's tail fell off and was wiggling on the rug which creeped me out.  Squirrel Hunter put the now tail less lizard outdoors to begin his new handicapped life.

I helped L-Rod and BuzzSaw put up a large tent screen since they will soon be hosting 40-50 hikers in a two day period.  We had a 25th birthday party for Squirrel Hunter, birthday hats and poppers included.  I was about to fall asleep in the RV when I felt it rocking.  Papa Bear was the jokester. I finally fell asleep at 2:00 a.m.  My last two days were heavenly and I cannot thank the Saufley's enough for all they do.  Over 2,000 hikers have passed through Hiker Heaven in the past 10 years.  I'm glad that I was one of them!
