Today, Bruce and I planted the bulbs that we received in my father-in-law's memory from Hospice of Cincinnati. In the fall, I served as the Grand Marshall at the $60,000.00 fund-raising event and spoke about my beloved father-in-law and my dear sister. Each hiker was presented with some bulbs, flags, and other memorabilia in their loved one's honor. I also planted the forget-me-not seeds that I plant everywhere I hike to honor my sister's (and now Webbie's memories). The charity aspect of my hike is as important to me as the footsteps that I take throughout the United States. And I even gave my seeds to fellow CDT hikers to plant this year on the CDT. Wm. Webb Hill, Jr. was a 30 year volunteer with the Boy Scouts and is being honored in Cincinnati for his devoted service. I have learned much through his and Ellen's charity work and feel inspired by them whether or not I am hiking. But I do feel compelled to continue my charity work for Hospice in his and my sister's memory even though I am no longer hiking on the CDT this season.
